Le Miami Resort and Spa sits on Old Chennai Road at Kottakuppam, just north of Pondicherry town and close to Serenity Beach. It offers rooms, suites and villas, a spa and an all day restaurant, which makes it a popular pick for a short break near the town.
Our villas are further up the coast. Wind & Wave is a gated beach property at Chettikuppam, between Marakkanam and Pondicherry, made up of villas and stays rather than resort rooms. Our largest villas each come with a private swimming pool.
Both make a good base for a few days by the sea, but they suit different trips. Below we set them side by side using what each says about itself, with no scores and no ranking.
What does Le Miami offer?
Le Miami Resort and Spa is a full service resort with a choice of rooms, suites and villas, so couples, small families and friends can each pick a size that fits. The spa is part of its name and a big part of its appeal.
Meals are handled at Le Melange, its all day dining restaurant, so you never need to plan where to eat. There is a swimming pool on the grounds and access to the beach, and Serenity Beach, with its surf schools and cafes, is close by.
Being near Kottakuppam also puts it close to the town, which suits guests who want to slip into the French Quarter for an evening. As with any resort, the pool and dining are shared with other guests.
What do our villas offer?
We are a gated coastal property in a quiet community, built around houses rather than rooms. Our five 3BHK villas, Villas 15 to 19, each have a private swimming pool, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, five queen beds and two living rooms looking onto the pool. Each sleeps up to 10 guests and has a kitchen, a dedicated workspace and a projector or home theatre.
There are also eight 2BHK Luxury Stays for up to 6 guests with a home theatre and a common pool, and 2BHK villas 09 to 14 for up to 4 guests that share a pool. Villa No 2 has a sea facing terrace and sleeps up to 8, and Villa No 2 and Villa No 5 welcome pets.
Every unit has air conditioning and fans, generator backup, wifi and an outdoor shower, with free parking inside the gate and self check-in. Food can be arranged, but there is no restaurant and no spa on site.
How do the locations compare for getting around?
Le Miami has the edge if you want to be near the town and near the action. Kottakuppam and Serenity Beach are lively, with cafes and surf lessons, and our Serenity Beach guide covers what to expect there.
We are further north at Chettikuppam, where the coast is quieter and the villages thin out. Pondicherry town and Auroville are each about a 30 minute drive, so evenings in the French Quarter and mornings in Auroville are both easy, and you return to calm. The beach is a 700 m walk from our gate.

Pools and privacy: how do they compare?
At Le Miami the swimming pool is a resort pool, shared with every guest and run to resort hours. That is fine for a couple who mainly want the spa and a lounger in the sun.
In our 3BHK villas, the pool belongs to your group alone. Children can swim for hours, adults can take a quiet dip before breakfast, and everyone can cool off late at night after a film in the home theatre. The living rooms face the water, so you can keep an eye on the pool from indoors. Our 2BHK stays share a pool between a small number of units, which is still far quieter than a resort pool.
Le Miami is closer to Serenity Beach. We offer a pool and a house that are entirely yours.
Families, groups and couples: which suits whom?
Choose Le Miami if you want a spa, an all day restaurant and the convenience of being near the town and Serenity Beach. A couple on a short break who want treatments and meals cooked every day will likely prefer it, and that is only fair to say.
Choose our villas if you are a family or a group who would rather share a house than book a row of rooms. Ten people in one 3BHK villa share three bathrooms, a kitchen, two living rooms and a private pool. With 21 villas and stays on one gated property, big families, wedding parties and team offsites can book several villas together and still have their own space.
