How do you get from the property to Auroville?

By road, and realistically by car. The drive takes around 30 minutes from Chettikuppam. There is free parking on the premises, so keeping a hire car or arranging a taxi for the duration of your stay is the practical choice — public transport along this stretch of coast is sparse and slow, and auto-rickshaws over that distance are neither cheap nor reliable to find for the return leg. Visiting the Matrimandir itself requires booking a pass in advance through Auroville's visitor centre; the viewing point and the inner chamber have separate arrangements and different timings, so check current rules before you travel rather than turning up. If you are combining Auroville with Pondicherry in one day, going to Auroville first and Pondicherry afterwards avoids the worst of the afternoon traffic into town.

If your visit is centred on Auroville's community life — volunteering, extended workshops, or a long stay — being inside the township is worth the booking effort and the constraints that come with it. For a short visit built around the Matrimandir, the visitor centre and a few bakeries, staying on the coast is usually better: more availability, more space for the money, and a pool and beach for the hours you are not in Auroville. A 30-minute drive is a reasonable trade for a 3BHK villa with its own pool at a fraction of a comparable town hotel's rate. It also puts Pondicherry within the same 30-minute radius, so a single base covers both without repacking.
