What does Varnam Private Pool Villa offer?

Varnam is an individually designed villa at No. 271/1 Old Auroville Road, Chinna Kottakuppam. It has two spacious bedrooms and a private pool, and the house is surrounded by lush gardens. It describes itself as a stay for families, friends or couples, and the setting is peaceful.

Two things stand out. First, home cooked food is part of the offer, which suits anyone who would rather not drive out for every meal. Second, caretakers are on site, so there is someone to ask when you need help. Varnam is also known for being affordable, which makes it a good fit for a short break when you want a pool without paying for space you will not use.

Because it is one villa, you have the whole place to yourselves. There is no other group sharing the garden or the water.

What do our villas offer?

We are a gated beach property at Chettikuppam, on the coast between Marakkanam and Pondicherry. There are 21 villas and stays on one property, in a few different sizes.

• Five 3BHK villas, Villas 15 to 19, each with a private swimming pool, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, five queen beds, two living rooms with a pool view, a kitchen, a dedicated workspace and a projector or home theatre. Up to 10 guests each.
• Eight 2BHK Luxury Stays for up to 6 guests, with a home theatre and a common pool.
• 2BHK villas 09 to 14 for up to 4 guests, with a common pool.
• Villa No 2, a 2BHK with two bathrooms, a sea facing terrace and a kitchen, for up to 8 guests. Pets are allowed.
• Villa No 5, a 2BHK where pets are also allowed.

How do the locations compare for getting around?

Varnam is on Old Auroville Road at Chinna Kottakuppam, just north of the town. That makes trips into Pondicherry for dinner, the French Quarter or the promenade shorter, and Auroville is also within easy reach. If your plan is to spend most of each day in the town and come back only to swim and sleep, that closeness is a real advantage.

Our property sits further along the coast at Chettikuppam, about a 30 minute drive from both Pondicherry town and Auroville. You trade a little time in the car for a much quieter setting. The villages thin out here, the gated community keeps traffic away, and the beach is a 700 m walk. For trips where the stay itself is the point, that trade is worth making. Parking is free inside our gate, which matters if you arrive in two or three cars.

Pools and privacy: how do they compare?

Both places give you a pool that belongs to your group alone. At Varnam that is the pool in the garden of the one villa. With us it is the private pool attached to each 3BHK villa, which the two living rooms look straight onto, so children in the water stay in sight of the adults inside.

If you book one of our 2BHK stays rather than a 3BHK villa, the pool is shared with the neighbouring units, so check which type you are booking. Every one of our units has air conditioning and fans, generator power backup and an outdoor shower. Power cuts happen on this coast, and backup that keeps the rooms cool is easy to overlook until the night you need it.

Privacy at Varnam comes from being a standalone house in a garden. Privacy with us comes from the gate, the quiet coastal community and the fact that each private pool villa is self contained.

Groups, families and couples: which suits whom?

Varnam is the better pick for a couple, two couples travelling together, or a family of four who want home cooked food, caretakers nearby and a short drive into the town. Two bedrooms are plenty for that, and being affordable is a genuine plus.

Our villas suit trips that need more room. A 3BHK villa sleeps up to 10 with three bathrooms, which makes mornings far easier for a large family or a group of friends. The home theatre turns quiet evenings into film nights. For weddings, reunions and team offsites, several villas can be booked together so everyone stays on one property while each family keeps its own space. Pet owners can bring their dog to Villa No 2 or Villa No 5.

We do not have a spa or an on-site restaurant, so if you want meals served without asking, factor that in. Food options can be arranged, and every private pool villa has a full kitchen.
