Wind & Wave Villas vs The Saravi, side by side
A resort in a coconut grove on the ECR, or a gated beach property of villas further up the coast. What each one gives you, and who it suits.
Facts checked 20 October 2026
The Saravi Resort and our villas often turn up in the same search. Both sit outside Pondicherry town, both offer private pool stays, and both are popular with families. Once you look closer, they are built for quite different trips.
The Saravi is a resort in the classic sense: rooms and villas spread through a coconut grove at Kottakuppam, with shared pools, a kids' pool and a play area. We are a gated beach property at Chettikuppam, made up of whole villas with kitchens, living rooms and, in the larger ones, a pool of their own. Here is what each offers, set out plainly, so you can pick the one that fits.
What does The Saravi Resort offer?
The Saravi describes itself as a luxury resort with distinctive architecture, set amid a coconut grove at Kottaimedu in Kottakuppam. It sits on the East Coast Road between Auroville and Pondicherry, which puts it in a convenient spot for trips in both directions.
Accommodation is a mix of rooms and villas. Some of the villas have private pools, and some stays come with open to sky showers, which suit the warm coastal climate well. There are also jacuzzi rooms for couples who want something a little special.
For families, The Saravi has a clear strength: an adult pool and a separate kids' pool, a common pool, and a kids' play area. Children have their own space to splash and play, and parents get the comfort of a resort setting around them.
What do our villas offer?
We have 21 villas and stays on one gated coastal property at Chettikuppam. The headline stays are five 3BHK villas, Villas 15 to 19, each with its own private swimming pool, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, five queen beds and two living rooms looking onto the pool. Each sleeps up to 10 guests and has a kitchen, a dedicated workspace and a projector or home theatre.
Alongside them are eight 2BHK Luxury Stays for up to 6 guests, with a home theatre and a common pool, and 2BHK villas 09 to 14 for up to 4 guests, also sharing a pool. Villa No 2 has a sea facing terrace and sleeps up to 8, and both Villa No 2 and Villa No 5 welcome pets.
Every unit has air conditioning and fans, generator backup, wifi, an outdoor shower and free parking inside the gate. Check-in is self service, and food can be arranged. To be clear about what we are not: there is no spa and no on-site restaurant, so this is a villa stay rather than a full service resort.
How do the locations compare?
The Saravi is on the ECR at Kottakuppam, the busier stretch just north of Pondicherry, with Auroville on one side and the town on the other. Cafes, surf schools and Serenity Beach are all close by, which suits guests who want to be out and about.
Our property is further up the coast at Chettikuppam, in a quiet gated community between Marakkanam and Pondicherry. The villages thin out here and the beach, a 700 m walk away, is calm. Pondicherry town and Auroville are each about a 30 minute drive, so you trade a little driving time for a lot more quiet.
If you have not decided which part of the coast suits you, our guide on where to stay in Pondicherry compares the town, the beaches and Auroville.
Pools and privacy compared
At The Saravi, the pools are a shared feature for most guests: an adult pool, a kids' pool and a common pool, with private pools in some villas. That is a good set up for families who like a lively pool deck and for children who enjoy meeting others.
With us, the five 3BHK villas each have a pool that belongs to that villa alone, with the living rooms opening onto it. You can swim early, swim late and keep the noise to your own group. The 2BHK stays share a common pool, which is quieter than a large resort pool because fewer guests use it.
Privacy runs through the rest of the stay too. A whole villa means your own kitchen, your own living rooms and your own front door, rather than a room along a shared path.
Groups, families and couples: which suits whom?
For a couple who want a resort atmosphere, a jacuzzi room or a villa with an open to sky shower, The Saravi is a strong choice. For a family with young children who want a kids' pool and a play area run by the resort, it is also an easy pick, and it is closer to Auroville and the cafes of Kottakuppam.
For a family of eight to ten, a group of friends or several families travelling together, our villas make more sense. A 3BHK villa with a private pool keeps everyone under one roof with three bathrooms and two living rooms, and because there are 21 stays on one property, a wedding party or an offsite can book several together. Pet owners also have options with us in Villas 2 and 5.
